Inventory of one's self

Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. Romans 12:3

John 15:7

(John 15:7 [HCSB])
If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.

I find this verse very interesting.....

I feel that if I am properly in Jesus, and his word is in me, the only thing I would ask for would be for his will to be done... Atleast that is how the Word directs me!

An objective standard of right and wrong

“Without an objective standard of right and wrong, laws and regulations become
recommendations rather than mandates. Rights are nothing more than
sets of competing preferences. There can be no such thing as deception, only
different vantage points...Without absolute moral truth, there can be no right
and wrong. Without right and wrong, there is no such thing as sin. Without
sin, there can be no such thing as judgment and no such thing as condemnation.
If there is no condemnation, there is no need for a Savior. This progression
renders the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ historically unique –
and eternally meaningless.”

4 George Barna, The Second Coming of the Church (Nashville: Word Publishing, 1998), p.62.

Moral Subjectivism

Moral Subjectivism
Moral Subjectivism is the philosophical
outlook which holds that all morality
is subjective and relative to an person’s
history, culture and personal standards
of truth. According to this philosophy,
there is no absolute truth or absolute
morality. There is only comparative morality
based on individual moral values.
Peter Kreeft and Ronald Tacelli call moral
subjectivism “an extremely popular and
destructive philosophy.” This philosophy
is reflected in many popular cliches, such
as “don’t be judgmental,” “don’t impose
your values on me,” “different strokes for
different folks” and “alternative lifestyles.”
They write:
“One of the reasons our culture finds
moral subjectivism so congenial is that
we have been conditioned to talk about
moral values instead of moral laws. The
very word law suggests something objective...
The word values...suggests
something subjective, something relative
to a subject: “my values” or “your values”
or “our values” or “Society’s values”
...The choice of words makes a real difference
– Moses did not receive the Ten
Values from God on Mount Sinai.”

Hearing and Doing the Word

Hearing and Doing the Word
19 My dearly loved brothers, understand this: Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, 20 for man’s anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. 21 Therefore, ridding yourselves of all moral filth and evil, humbly receive the implanted word, which is able to save you.
22 But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works — this person will be blessed in what he does. [James 1:21-25]

Warning against false teachers

So I was reading my Bible today, during my studies, and found this:

1 Now the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons, 2 through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared. 3 They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods that God created to be received with gratitude by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 since it is sanctified by the word of God and by prayer. [1 Timothy 4:1-5]

I already see some of this happening! This Book is AMAZING!

Rich with Grace

It was about noon, but the whole area became dark until three
o'clock in the afternoon. There was no sun! The curtain in
the temple was torn into two pieces. Jesus shouted, "Father,
I give you my life." After Jesus said this, he died.

-- Luke 23:44-46 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
These few words are filled with great richness. Jesus' death occurs in
deep darkness; darkness has its way for a brief spell before its
stranglehold on us is broken forever by Jesus' resurrection. The veil
is torn in the Temple; Jesus opens up the way for us to enter the Holy
of Holies with confidence and find grace at the Mercy Seat of God. In
his final breath, Jesus entrusts everything to his Father in faith; in
our worst of moments, we can know that no matter how forsaken we may
feel, God will bring us to himself in glory. Jesus takes his last
breath and dies; each of us must one day give up our last breath, but
because of Jesus' death and subsequent resurrection, we can die with
confidence. Which message do you need most today? Choose one and look
to Jesus and trust in his grace.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, what can I say in response to the gift of your Son? All praise
to you, the God Almighty, the Father of mercy, and the Sovereign God of
grace. Jesus, thank you for your example and the price you paid to
provide it for me. Now I finish this prayer with the request that you,
O Holy Spirit, fill and empower me to have the same trust in my
struggles as the Lord displayed as he faced his trials. In the name of
Jesus, my Lord and Savior, I pray. Amen.
